Take Breaks

Hi all.  I went to the chiropractor today, which reminded me how important it is to take breaks from crafting.  This is especially relevant as I am going on a four day craft retreat.  (Good time to use my Etsy craft weekend planner) I'm so looking forward to it, but I have to remind myself to take regular breaks.

Taking regular breaks helps prevent the aches, strain, and fatigue caused by staying in one position or repeating the same motion for too long.

  • Hands and wrists: Cutting, gripping tools, weeding vinyl, sewing, and using scissors repeatedly can cause stiffness, cramping, or repetitive-strain injuries.
  • Eyes: Focusing on tiny details or screens can lead to dry eyes, headaches, and blurry vision.
  • Neck and shoulders: Looking down at a project for long periods can create tension and soreness.
  • Back: Sitting or leaning over a work surface can strain the lower back, especially if your chair or table is not at a comfortable height.

Every 30–45 minutes, pause briefly. Stand up, change position, gently stretch your fingers, shoulders, neck, and back, and look across the room for about 20 seconds. These short breaks can help you craft longer and more comfortably without needing days to recover afterward.

Happy crafting!
